President of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC), Leslie Collymore, has hailed the One Guyana Premier Basketball League as one of the sport’s innovations in the region.

Noting it is “groundbreaking”, Collymore believes it can elevate the sport in Guyana and serve as a “foundational model” for a Caribbean Premier Basketball League, which can “unite players and fans in the vibrant region”.

“The One Guyana Premier League represents the spirit of unity, excellence, and growth that Caribbean Basketball stands for. It is a beacon of inspiration, showcasing how passion, vision and collaboration can transform the sport we love”, the CBC President expressed.

In 2023, decades of dreams for a basketball league in Guyana became reality, thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Sport and G-Boats Incorporated.

The league was coordinated by the Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF).

The League had 14 teams, divided into Harpy Eagles Conference and Jaguars Conference, with over 50 matches being played.

Ravens won the inaugural title, defeating the Eagles 76-63 in game three to prevail 2-1 in the series.

They pocketed $1M while the Eagles got $500,000.
