The government has a regional registration schedule for the $100,000 cash grant but Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo clarified on Thursday that any person who was unable to register during the outlined will receive their funds subsequently.

Jagdeo told reporters at his weekly press conference that the government is focused on registering citizens in Regions One, Four, Seven, Eight and Nine in the first round.

Schedules have been issued for each of those regions, except Region Seven and registration is underway. In Region Nine, some citizens have received their cash grants already.

It is envisioned that the cheques will be cut for citizens in these regions over the next four regions. The registration and distribution process will unfold in other regions subsequently.

However, the Vice President noted that citizens who have not registered during the identified periods in the adminsitrative regions will not be left out of the distribution exercise.

“If we have completed say 95 or 96 per cent of a region who were registered and we get the cheques in their hands, (for) the five or four per cent reaming we can set up a mechanism for them to be registered and they too will receive their cheques,” Jagdeo explained.

He stressed, “… You are not going to miss out on the resources.”

The Vice President also acknowledged that there have been some challenges with the registration efforts given the magnitude of the undertaking. He, however, noted that a feedback mechanism has been established by the Ministry of Finance so that the unfolding process can be continuously improved.

The cash grants, announced by President Ali during his October 10 parliamentary address, are part of a nationwide effort to inject some $60 billion into the pockets of Guyanese citizens.

The full distribution of the cash grants is expected to be completed within the next few months countrywide.
