A tragic accident that occurred on Saturday at approximately 21:00 hrs on the Tain Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice has claimed the life of an 18-year-old rider.

The collision occurred between a motor car, registration #PAH 6222, driven by 19-year-old Samuel Subadar of Tain, and an electric cycle ridden by 18-year-old Raj Mohan, also from Tain.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Subadar was traveling east at a high rate of speed along the southern lane of the Tain Public Road when the accident took place.

According to the driver, Subadar activated his right turn signal as he attempted to overtake another vehicle traveling in front of him.

During this maneuver, Mohan, who was riding on the northern edge of the road, suddenly swerved into the southern lane. Despite Subadar’s efforts to avoid the collision by braking, the front of his vehicle struck the e-cycle, causing Mohan to be thrown from his bike and onto the road surface.

Mohan suffered severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body. He was found unconscious at the scene and immediately transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.

The body of the deceased is currently at Ramoo’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
