Police have arrested a Venezuelan national after he reportedly stole a woman’s black Honda Vezel on Monday night.
Police said the man crashed the car 15 minutes after he drove off.
The vehicle belongs to a 39-year-old housewife from Pearl, East Bank Demerara and is valued at $4.7 million.
According to a Police report, the man left with the car at around 19:30hrs. At 19:45hrs, the woman received a call that the car was involved in an accident at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
The woman told Police that at around 19:00hrs, she parked the car in front of her property at Pearl.
The vehicle’s engine was left on while she proceeded into the house to collect cash. It was during this time that she noticed the Venezuelan national getting behind the wheel and then driving off.
After being informed of the accident, the woman proceeded to the location and discovered her vehicle, with the perpetrator sitting in the driver’s seat. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The suspect was arrested and placed in Police custody as investigations continue.
