The Region Six edition of the CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited- National Schools Teams and Singles Table Tennis Championships has been celebrated as a major triumph for the sport.

The tournament is being held in collaboration with the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA)  and the Ministry of Education

According to the GTTA, the event showcased the talent and passion for table tennis in Guyana, with over 17 school teams and more than 150 student-athletes from schools across the region.

The championships were expertly coordinated by ITTF level two coach and national Paralympic champion Gibrain Safaraz, who oversaw activities in Corentyne, and ITTF level one coach Osafo Dos Santos, who coordinated the proceedings in New Amsterdam.

These coaches, also involved in the Ministry of Education’s coaching programme, played a crucial role in developing regional table tennis.

Teams from various schools in Region 6, including New Amsterdam, Canje, Rose Hall, and Corentyne, competed for regional honors in a four-day tournament. The Department of Education in Region 6 provided significant support for the championships.

The New Amsterdam leg of the championships took place at the Berbice High School auditorium, where schools like Berbice High, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Canje Secondary, and others contended for championship titles.

The Skeldon Estate Community Center and JC Chandisingh served as the venue for schools from the Corentyne area, including Port Mourant Secondary, Tagore Secondary, and Skeldon High.

The championships featured various categories, including boys and girls singles for different age groups, as well as a special edition for male and female teachers.
