Two children who were both shot in their heads have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. In June, a six-year-old girl from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was shot while she was asleep.
“We were able to operate on that child, and I actually saw that child at my clinic, and she is talking and okay,” Chief Neurosurgeon at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi, stated in a recent update on her condition.
According to a police report, the young girl’s mother put her to bed, and when she woke up to use the washroom, she heard her daughter groaning. The mother checked on the child and found her drenched in blood. During the investigation, detectives observed that a suspected gunshot entry was seen in the zinc, which appeared to have been projected inward in the vicinity of the victim’s bed. No spent shell was seen in or around the house.
Police said several persons were questioned, and they did not recall hearing any sound of gunfire.
Later in July, a six-year-old boy, Jeremiah Gustave, was shot during a crossfire while on Charles Street, Georgetown.
“That child has also been saved and discharged and is recovering with physiotherapy at home,” Dr. Dukhi revealed.
Marlon Marcus, also known as ‘Miceman,’ was arrested in connection with the shooting. Investigations revealed that Gustave was standing next to his 39-year-old mother, a food vendor, on the eastern side of Charles Street when Marcus approached with a gun. Marcus fired four rounds in the direction of a man known as ‘Crab,’ who owed him $100,000. ‘Crab’ fled the scene, but the stray bullets hit the child, who fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, 50-year-old Chinese businessman Jianqing Chen, who was shot twice in the head last month, has also recovered.
“We were also able to save that guy,” Dr. Dukhi said as he referenced improved neurosurgery care at the hospital.
