Worcestershire is to aid their former player and West Indies legend Jason Holder with his recovery work following a shoulder operation after he requested to link up again with the club that gave him “a new love for cricket” for a short spell later this month.

Holder had a big influence at Visit Worcestershire New Road during the early 2024 season when he played five County Championship matches.

He spoke glowingly about his spell with Worcestershire and said it was “one big family where everyone plays for the right reasons.”

Now he is returning for a week or so to work alongside his former team-mates ahead of Christmas as part of his ‘back to cricket’ programme after the shoulder surgery.

Worcestershire Head Coach, Alan Richardson, said: “Unfortunately Jason has had some injury issues and recently had shoulder surgery. He had it over here and so has to come back to see the specialist for a couple of appointments.

“During that time he is getting a back to cricket programme and he has asked us if he can join in for a little while.

“It will be great to have him involved. We know what a quality person Jason is and the amount of energy he gives the squad, you can’t put a number on that.

“It will be really exciting for not only the players but also the support staff to have him around. He should be with us for a week or so in December.”

Holder maintained a constant contact with his ex team-mates throughout a season in which Worcestershire went onto achieve their best Championship position since the competition split into two divisions.

Richardson said: “The communication between Jason and the players has been constant throughout.

“He has been sending multiple ‘good luck’ messages’ or contacting players to congratulate them on team or individual performances.

“Jason was an amazing player for us and the energy and quality he brought to us was brilliant and that continued throughout the season.

“It has been a real nice relationship between the club and Jason.” (Worcestershire)
