Police on Sunday arrested four men after an illegal 9MM pistol with ten matching rounds of ammunition were discovered at Caria Caria, Essequibo River.
According to reports, police ranks acting on information received, went to the area and found Brian Jackson, a 24-year-old miner of Half Mile, Linden, at a house owned by a farmer.
Police said he was sleeping in a hammock under the house with a black shoulder bag in the hammock.
The ranks found the firearm and ammunition in his bag along with two radio sets.
Johnson was asked if he was a licensed firearm holder and he said ‘no’.
After he was arrested and ranks were preparing for transport, Johnson allegedly told the cops to wait on his friends.
The friends were identified as Rondel Rodney, a 27-year-old from One Mile Wismar, Linden, who was riding a Black XR motorcycle without a number plate; pillion rider Martin Fraser, a 25-year-old from South Amelia’s Ward Linden; and Lionel Gilkes, a 33-year-old welder of Half Mile Wismar Linden who was riding a black and red scooter.
They were questioned as to the reason for being in the area and they said that they were ‘prospecting’ land. They were all arrested and escorted to Parika Police Station where the two motorcycles were lodged and the firearm was placed into an evidence bag.
They were all placed into custody assisting with the investigation.
