Police hunt man who raped Region 7 businesswoman at knifepoint

A 56-year-old businesswoman was Sunday allegedly raped at knifepoint by a man while at her shop in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 20:30 hrs. A report was lodged at the Imbaimadai Police Station at about 22:50hrs.

The perpetrator was described as an identifiable man.

According to a Police report, the victim alleged that she was lying in a hammock in her shop when she was approached by the man, who was armed with what appeared to be a knife.

The assailant reportedly threatened the woman that if she made a sound he would kill her.

After raping the woman, the suspect escaped into nearby bushes.

Police are on the hunt for the suspect as the investigations continue.
