Excavator Operator, 31, chopped to death at Moruca

Brazilian national, Antonio Silva De Oliveira, called “Brazo”, 52, is wanted for questioning in relation to the crime

A 31-year-old excavator operator was on Monday afternoon chopped to death following a misunderstanding at Omai Backdam, Region Eight (Potaro- Siparuni).

Dead is Brian Marco, called “Toney”, or “Regular Boy” of Kwebanna Road, Moruca, North West District.

The Guyana Police Force has since issued a wanted bulletin for Brazilian national, Antonio Silva De Oliveira, called “Brazo”, 52. He is wanted for questioning in relation to the crime.

The incident took place at around 15:30 hrs.

Investigations revealed that Marco and the suspect are known to each other since they were both employed at the same mining operation.

Marco and the suspect would operate separate excavators in the mining pit during the night in preparation for work the following day.

Last Sunday night, Police said while the two men were working, they had a misunderstanding which led to Marco assaulting the suspect.

The following day, Police said Marco was sleeping in a hammock, infront of a shop at the backdam while another worker, Asgar Mohammed, was sleeping on a bed next to Marco.

Thereafter, Police added that the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass, went to the shop attacked Marco and dealt him several chops.

Police said several workers gathered around the suspect and disarm him while some others started to assault him.

While this was happening, the General Manager went to the suspect’s assistance and took him away from the scene.

Marco was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

The suspect managed to escape the scene. Efforts are ongoing to locate him.
