Daniel Darrell Snr., a 39-year-old truck driver from Tabatinga in Central Lethem, Region Nine died on Sunday after he was attacked by a swarm of bees.
Police Headquarters reported that Daniel’s 13-year-old son, Daniel Jnr. was also injured during the attack at Huntoil Stretch, Central Rupununi.
According to the report, the father and son were heading towards Lethem on a motorcycle when they were attacked.
“They both fell to the ground and the son managed to run to safety (even though attacked), while the father was attacked and bitten by the bees, and he became motionless on the ground,” police stated.
The son was rescued by a passing minibus and remains hospitalised in a serious condition.
Police said Yimochi Melvill, a 42-year-old Bee Keeper from Culvert City managed to ‘smoked out’ the bees, making the area safe.
