President Dr. Irfaan Ali said murders, robberies, and other serious crime rates are on the decline in Guyana, an occurrence he attributes to proactive Police work and greater investments in national security.
The President spoke at an end-of-year press conference held on Tuesday at State House, his official residence in Georgetown.
According to him, the lowest number of murders and all categories of robberies over a 10-year period was recorded this year. And the clear-up rate for murders, he said, is a whopping 71%. That, he explained, means more murders are being solved, and culprits prosecuted.
Additionally, the lowest number of break-and-enter and larceny cases was recorded this year.
And he added that the highest seizure of illegal firearms was recorded this year.
“This shows that our men and women in uniform are proactively working,” the Head of State emphasised.
He also posited that the government is investing in beefing up security across the country, investing in bother infrastructure and technology.
