With salary increases, more private-sector workers switching to gov’t work – President

With salary increases and adjustments across the public sector, President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Tuesday said more workers from the private sector are switching to public sector work.

“You have many instances now where the salaries in the public sector now are so competitive that persons are seeking to come over to the government sector,” President Ali said on Tuesday at an end-of-year press conference.

Dr. Ali said the private sector, in many instances, has to do more to keep up with what is happening in the public sector.

This year, all public servants will receive a 10% retroactive salary increase this year. And in 2025, they will receive an 8% increase.

Outside of these increases, the Head of State spreviously aid the government will work on various salary scale adjustments from next year. This move, he explained, is meant to guarantee that the workers take home more money, monthly.
