
Mehandra Chatargum and Juanita Persaud emerged champions of the Men and Women’s categories respectively in Archery Guyana’s Senior Barebow Open, held at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, on January 11-12.
The successfully executed tournament was rolled over from the 2024 programme.
In the Men’s category, Chatargum copped the gold medal, with Gregory McKoy taking silver and Nolan Gray bronze.
On the female side, Persaud won ahead of Roshini Boodhoo, who copped silver, and bronze medallist Melesa Ramnaraine.

Apart from the archers enjoying an exciting weekend of play, Archery Guyana was able to break new grounds with the competition being streamed live for the first time and officials utilizing the globally recognised IANSEO software for live scoring.
“This technology ensures immediate updates of results, offering real-time insights for athletes, coaches and fans alike,” Archery Guyana said in a press release.
At the presentation ceremony, Archery Guyana’s Director of Shooting Ryan McKinnon delivered closing remarks, medals were presented to the winners and Lancaster caps were given to the finalists.

President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon also expressed gratitude to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.; Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle; the National Sports Commission; President Godfrey Munroe and the Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association; Samuel Arjoon of Guyana Beverages Inc.; Oasis Water; Physiotherapist Vanessa Wickham; the National Sports Clinic and Dr. Ariane Mangar from the Ministry of Health; Physiotherapist Stowell Barry and members of the media for their invaluable support.
Next up for Archery Guyana is the Senior Recurve Open on January 18-19 in the auditorium of the Cyril Potter College of Education.
The ranking rounds will take place on day one, followed by eliminations and finals the following day.
“All Guyanese Archers are invited to participate,” Archery Guyana said.
