The government will expand its support for vulnerable groups across Guyana with a $58.5 billion allocation for social services in the 2025 National Budget.

This allocation was announced by Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh on Friday, as he presented the 2025 National Budget during a sitting of the National Assembly.

According to Dr. Singh, the government is heavily focused on supporting these vulnerable groups through various initiatives and interventions.

The lion’s share of the allocation for social services will go towards catering to Guyana’s senior citizens. Overall, the sum of $42.8 billion is budgeted in 2025 for continuous support to senior citizens. Included in this sum is $800 million for the construction of a new elderly care facility in Enmore and millions for water and electricity subsidies.

Beyond this, there is a $1.3 billion sum set aside to continue initiatives to support the care and protection of children. Funds are also allocated to support persons with disabilities and women.
