In a bid to ease the cost of living for citizens, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced a major allocation of $9 billion in the 2025 Budget, aimed at addressing price increases and providing targeted relief to some of Guyana’s most vulnerable communities.

The measure builds on previous initiatives, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for all Guyanese.

During his budget presentation on Friday, Dr. Singh highlighted that the government has prioritised engaging with communities and consulting with key stakeholders since taking office in 2020.

These consultations have been instrumental in shaping interventions to mitigate the economic pressures faced by households across the country.

In 2022 and 2023, the government allocated $5 billion and $7 billion, respectively, to address rising costs, and the 2025 allocation marks a continued effort to protect citizens from the challenges of inflation.

Dr. Singh confirmed that these funds will be directed towards targeted interventions, including support for vulnerable groups and initiatives to curb inflationary pressures.

“Since assuming office, one of our first actions was to reverse the range of punitive taxes imposed by the previous government between 2015 and 2020,” Dr. Singh said.
The $9 billion allocation is expected to provide much-needed relief, as rising prices continue to challenge households.
