Aranaputa man charged with multiple offences

Carlton Jones, a 28-year-old resident of Aranaputa Valley, North Rupununi, was charged with several serious offences and remanded to prison on Monday.

The man was charged with six counts of cattle larceny. He was also charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, escaping lawful custody, and three counts of unlawful wounding.

Jones was arrested on January 18 and appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on January 20, where he faced both indictable and summary charges. For the indictable offenses, no plea was required, and he was remanded to prison pending a report on March 11, 2025.

On the summary charges of unlawful wounding, Jones pleaded guilty and received a 10-month prison sentence for each of the three counts, to be served concurrently.

This case underscores the continued efforts of law enforcement to address criminal activities in the region.
