Slingerz Football Club has revealed its ambition to sign veteran Caribbean football coach Jamaal Shabazz.
Shabazz has a long and distinguished career, having managed the men’s and women’s national teams of Trinidad & Tobago and taking charge of St Lucia and Montserrat.
He recently completed his fourth spell as head coach of the Guyana national team.
Slingerz owner Javed Ali said the club has “huge ambitions” to compete at a Caribbean and Concacaf level and believes Shabazz is the right person to help them achieve this.
“We firmly believe that Jamaal Shabazz can play a major role in us achieving that,” Ali explained. “His experience, dedication and commitment speak for itself. The overall leadership he brings is worth the pursuit.”

Ali also highlighted Shabazz’s pre-existing ties to the club. “When we formed Slingerz, Kashif Muhammad suggested that I seek the advice of Jamaal Shabazz because of the type of investment we wanted to make in football,” he said. “From the inception he shared his knowledge and expertise to help the club. We at Slingerz consider him family.”
It is understood that Shabazz is also being considered for national team coaching roles in two other Caribbean nations.
Ali acknowledged this competition but expressed confidence that Slingerz’s offer, combined with Shabazz’s affection for Guyana, could sway his decision.
“Our offer is very competitive, and we know Shabazz has a genuine love for Guyana and wants to see Guyana’s football elevated,” Ali stated.
“We’ve been in deep dialogue with Coach Shabazz and while he has not yet signed, we believe the Guyanese heart in him will work in Slingerz’s favour.”
Slingerz recently returned to top-flight football after a near nine-year absence, finishing second in the GFF Elite League behind the Guyana Defence Force.
