Should Guyanese living in the United States of America face deportation due to new policies, Guyana’s Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said they will be accepted here.
“We believe that if our country can absorb people who come from Venezuela- most are Guyanese, and there are non-Guyanese too- if we can absorb them and they are working here and they are living decently, why shouldn’t we do it for our own people?
“These are our own people. Once they’re Guyanese and they’re verified to be Guyanese, then you have to take your people back,” Jagdeo said at a People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) press conference on Thursday.
Talks of mass deportation from the US are increasingly frequent given President Donald Trump’s vow and recent executive order to revoke birthright citizenship for children born in the States with unlawful or temporary status.
Jagdeo, however, made it clear that Guyanese authorities would not accept citizens of other countries being deported here.
