Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo described the political opposition’s analysis of the 2025 National Budget as “rudimentary,” criticising them for being unable to recognise the value of targeted interventions.

Jagdeo, the General Secretary of the governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), spoke at a party press conference on Thursday.

In his first press conference since the presentation of the 2025 National Budget, Dr. Jagdeo explained that the allocations and measures in the budget were carefully crafted to empower citizens. He also said these interventions are meant to stimulate continued economic growth and push the development of Guyana.

However, he expressed much disappointment that the opposition has been unable to appreciate the fiscal plan. According to him, many opposition spokespersons have merely offered shallow comments on the budget, failing to delve into the plan and its focus on poverty alleviation.

“This is why the analysis or the lack of it is so rudimentary,” Jagdeo lamented.

According to him, the fiscal plan shows the PPP’s focus on empowering people be it through housing, employment or upskilling.

“That is how we have been tackling poverty, in multi-faceted ways, equipping people with the tools and doing it in a non-discriminatory manner,” he said.
