Persons travelling to and from Guyana will no longer be required to fill out the paper-based immigration forms soon, as efforts are being made to offer the service online.

Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn told the News Room that the online embarkation/disembarkation form is in its testing phase.

He said six flights were tested during the weekend as they were all successful.

“That is in the final stage of testing.

“So they are doing the final reviews and hopefully by weekend it should be out. They intend to put it out there fully,” Benn told the News Room on Tuesday.

An immigration form is needed when travelling as it provides essential information about the traveler to immigration authorities such as where passenger is coming from, length of their stay and what items they are carrying in their possession.

It allows verification of identity, the tracking of travel movements and ensure compliance of immigration laws.

Passengers entering and leaving Guyana are given the paper-based forms to fill out during their flights. Upon completion, it is handed to immigration authorities at the port of their destination.

The overall aim of moving the service online, Benn said, is to facilitate the ease of transition, reduce processing time and remove the hassle of writing.

The electronic forms also include enhanced security features.

The move will form part of the country effort in moving towards paperless transactions.
