Police ranks from Regional Division 4A made a significant drug seizure on Monday following a routine mobile patrol on Mandela Avenue.

At approximately 13:00 hrs, the officers, acting on intelligence, stopped a white Toyota Axio vehicle, registration number PWW 2756, heading north along the western side of the avenue.

The vehicle was driven by Earl Harper, a 48-year-old taxi driver from Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, with 47-year-old Dwayne Campbell, a watchman from Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, seated in the front passenger seat.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers informed the men that they had received information suggesting that they were involved in narcotics trafficking. Following this, a search of the car was carried out in their presence. The police found a yellow and white bag, along with a black haversack in the vehicle’s trunk. The items contained twenty parcels wrapped in brown scotch tape.

Upon opening the parcels, police discovered a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The suspects were promptly informed of the offence they were being investigated for, and both were escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station, along with the vehicle and the suspected drugs.

The cannabis was subsequently transported to the CID Headquarters Crime Lab, where it was weighed in the presence of the suspects. The total weight of the substance amounted to 21,364 grams (approximately 21.3kg).

Both Earl Harper and Dwayne Campbell were placed in police custody, and investigations into the drug trafficking case are ongoing. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the seizure and will provide further updates as the investigation develops.
