Man, 40, wanted for beating death of 16-year-old girlfriend

Police are investigating the murder of 16-year-old Janelly David, whose body was discovered on Thursday in Barama Line, Baramita, North West District.

Authorities are searching for Eon Moore, a 40-year-old man, who is suspected of being responsible for the teenager’s death. It is reported that Moore fled the scene on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in the direction of Five-Star Back Dam, NWD, shortly after the incident.

Officers from the Baramita Police Station and Medic Edghilo from Baramita Cottage Hospital visited the scene and discovered a makeshift camp, roughly 12 by 18 feet in size, where the victim’s body was found.

Janelly was lying motionless in a hammock, wearing a peach-coloured top and black shorts. Police observed visible signs of violence on her right eye and what appeared to be swelling at the back of her head.

Enquiries revealed that Janelly and Moore were in a common-law relationship and had been living together prior to her death. A 31-year-old cook, who had a camp located about 15 feet away from the couple’s, reported that she had seen both individuals on the evening of Wednesday. At the time, Janelly appeared to be in good health and high spirits.

Later that night, the cook left for Central Baramita and returned at approximately 10:30 hrs on Thursday. Upon her return, she saw Moore packing his belongings onto a red Suzuki ATV, which lacked a registration number. When the cook asked Moore about Janelly’s whereabouts, he allegedly replied, “She’s sleeping in her hammock.”

The cook then checked the hammock and discovered Janelly’s lifeless body, noting the visible injuries on her face. At this point, Moore fled the scene, driving off on the ATV.

A report was made to the Baramita Police Station, and Janelly’s body was transported to Baramita Cottage Hospital.

A manhunt is currently underway for Moore as investigations into the incident continue.
