Pensioner, 70, choked to death by security guard at East Canje

Pooshandeo Rambaran, 70, died on Thursday after he was allegedly choked to death by a security guard, who has since been arrested.

The incident took place at approximately 10:30 hrs.

Police Headquarters in a statement said that an anonymous caller reported to the Police that he saw a man choking an individual on the road.

As such, a Police rank responded and went to Lot 13 Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice.

There, Rambaran was found lying motionless.

Rambaran was transported to the New Amsterdam Public hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the suspect, Ramjit Ranlall, a 48-year-old security guard of Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice, was arrested.

He is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
