Police are seeking the public’s help in locating 31-year-old Linden taxi driver Ronald Balgobin for the alleged abduction of Basmattie ‘Penny’ Basant.
The incident involving Basant, a 37-year-old housewife of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, occurred on October 27, 2024 at her residence.
Police have the wanted man’s address as Lot 75 ‘B’ Cinderella City, Linden, and Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara
Basant has since taken to social media to express fear for her life and to plead with authorities to find her ex and two men that she alleges were involved in the abduction.
According to a post on her Facebook page on Wednesday, Basant said her ex is out on bail and that to this day, she is living in fear.
“I have spoken to the police and all I am hearing is this guy is into hiding but yet he’s on social media live broadcast,” she expressed.
“During the relationship, I was forced into a lot of things and I was physically abused and I was living as a prisoner; can’t speak to anyone, can’t go anywhere. I hide my abuse by smiling to the world like all is well while I was living in fear and abuse,” she continued.
Basant said she has even inflicted injuries on herself, one time stabbing herself as she felt that was the only way out of the relationship.
“I was forbidden to talk to family, friends my kids and everyone. And even if I tried to reach out to anyone, I was verbally abused and harassed.”
Basant said she even succeeded in obtaining a restraining order from the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court but this did not stop threats from Balgobin.
“I locked myself in my apartment numerous days so that he would leave me alone, but he refuse to do so.. until he plan and execute his plan well and had me kidnapped by his accomplice and they took me naked as I was born just with my bath towel.”
Thankfully, Basant said she was able to scream for help on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and get help from a passing police patrol.
“I was taken into safe shelter. I came out because I felt I wasn’t get better. It has been three months since and I am still very fearful for my life because my ex did mention that he doesn’t want to go to prison. He also always tells me that if he can’t have me, no other man can have me.”
Basant is appealing to the authorities for help with the matter.
