The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) will intensify preparation of its Under-15 squad for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board’s Inter-County 50-over championship with a practice game against Meten-Meer-Zorg Under-17 team on Sunday (February 2).

The 50-over game will start at 09:30h at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, West Coast Demerara.

The DCB selectors have also named five stand-by players: Jermaine Grovesnor, Somesh Boyer, Sourav Persaud, Joshua Williams and Mickel Johnson.

Meten-Meer-Zorg U-17: Parmeshwar Ram (Captain), Joshua Kishundial, Isaiah Underson, Navendra Sankar, Arvin Suknanand, Wazir Gulam, Murali Seodat, Navindra Krishna, Joshua Isaac Williams, Naresh Sankar, Udesh Seetaram, Orvin Raymond and Alwin Williams.

Ramping up preparation

Ever since the Demerara Under-15 squad was selected following the hosting of the Inter-Association competition, the DCB has been providing opportunities for players to sharpen their skills.

Coach Yeuraj Khemraj said the aim is to get the players to peak condition for the Inter-County tournament, set to be held in February.

It is from this Inter-County championship that the Guyana team will be selected for the Regional Under-15 Championship later this year.

Khemraj said the Demerara players are gelling well, and it is his hope they can have a full game on Sunday to further test their preparedness for the Inter-County.

Just last weekend, a practice game against the Demerara Under-19 side was affected by rain at the LBI ground, with just six overs possible.

Prior to that, the Demerara Under-15s defeated East Coast Under-17 by 48 runs.

SUMMARY: Demerara Under-15 152-8 from 40 overs (Lomar Seecharran 29, Makai Dowlin 23, Joshua Bollers 22, Vinesh Kalpoo 20, Shahid Ramzan 15; Narindra Isurdeen 2-10, Rishi Seodat 2-12) vs East Coast U-17 104 all out from 23.4 overs (Yannick Newton 26, Arun Gainda 20; Shahid Ramzan 4-16, Patrice Fraser 3-15)
