Guyana Harpy Eagles finished day two of their West Indies Championship clash against Barbados Pride in a commanding position, thanks to an unbroken 179-run partnership between captain Kemol Savory and Kevlon Anderson.

At the National Stadium, Providence, Savory is just five runs short of a century, having reached 95 not out, while Anderson is unbeaten on 87.  Their efforts helped Guyana reach 315-3 in reply to Barbados’ first innings total of 346.

Barbados had posted a solid 346 all out, with Matthew Forde top-scoring with 82, supported by Jonathan Drakes (70) and Zachary McCaskie (64).  Richie Looknauth was the pick of the Guyana bowlers, taking 4-69.

Guyana’s reply began steadily, with Tagenarine Chanderpaul (40) and Matthew Nandu (36) putting on a 61-run opening stand.  However, Barbados fought back, taking three wickets to leave Guyana at 136-3.

That’s when Savory and Anderson joined forces, turning the tide with their dominant partnership.  Anderson’s aggressive 87 included 14 boundaries, while Savory’s more measured 95 featured 14 fours and a six.

Both would eye third First-Class hundreds on day three.

Barbados’ bowlers struggled to make inroads, with only Chaim Holder, Javed Leacock and Jair McAllister managing a wicket apiece.

Guyana now trails by just 31 runs with seven wickets remaining, giving them a strong advantage going into day three.

Barbados will need early wickets to prevent Guyana from building a significant lead.
