A fatal road accident occurred earlier on Sunday on the public road at Timehri, East Bank Demerara, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Suresh Singh.
Singh, a resident of Hill Foot on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was driving motor car #PAG 9078 when the tragic incident unfolded at approximately 18:30 hrs. Reports indicate that Singh was travelling south along the road at a high speed when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle.
The car subsequently veered into the path of an oncoming motor lorry, #GAD 8492, which was travelling north in the opposite direction.
The collision caused severe damage to both vehicles. Singh sustained critical injuries and was assisted by passers-by who transported him in a nearby vehicle, escorted by police, to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Despite efforts to save him, Dr. Singal, who examined him, pronounced Singh dead upon arrival.
Following the incident, Singh’s body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the lorry, 45-year-old Trinidadian Terry Duff, was tested for alcohol consumption following the crash, with results showing no trace of alcohol in his system. A Notice of Intended Prosecution has been served to Duff, who is currently in police custody and assisting with the investigation.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
