In a major step towards modernising public services, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is set to embark on a digital overhaul, backed by a substantial $58.3 billion allocation approved by the Parliamentary Committee of Supply on Friday.

This transformative investment will streamline operations, improve accessibility to vital programmes, and create a centralised digital architecture for managing data on services like pensions and public assistance.

Minister Dr Vindhya Persaud revealed that the digital upgrade, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank, will significantly enhance the Ministry’s efficiency, providing a more user-friendly experience for citizens and paving the way for future innovations.

The funding will also support a range of initiatives designed to protect and empower vulnerable groups, including new legislation on Inter-Country Adoption, Gender-Based Violence policies, and the groundbreaking Early Childhood Development (ECD) Policy.

“The ECD policy will focus our efforts on new day and night care centres, a first for the region,” Minister Persaud highlighted, underlining the Ministry’s pioneering approach to early childhood care.

In addition to digital upgrades, the allocation will fund essential services for senior citizens, domestic violence shelters, and trafficking-in-persons programmes, marking a comprehensive effort to address the needs of those most at risk in society.

With these new developments, the Ministry is poised to revolutionise social services across the nation.
