The government wants to develop Guyana’s second Gas-to-Energy project in the ancient county, Berbice, and a deep water port- two massive investments that will require a municipal airport in the region, according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
President Ali spoke about the developments planned for Berbice during his recent appearance on the Energy Perspectives Podcast.
Outside of the gas project and deep water port, massive housing developments and commercial ventures like hotels and malls are expected in the region. A new sport stadium is already under construction.
And the Guyanese Head of State firmly believes an airport there will be necessary.
“When you look at the development that you’re going to have at Palmyra, it is very clear in my estimation that somewhere in Berbice, we will have to have a municipal airport development like Ogle somewhere in Berbice,” Dr. Ali said.
This isn’t the first time the President has spoken about this venture. During an outreach activity in April 2022, the President also suggested that the aerodrome at Rose Hall, Canje, will be upgraded to a municipal airport similar to the Ogle airport on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
