Since 2020, a total of 6,000 Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ranks benefitted from training in various specialties, both locally and internationally.

Out of that amount, 1,200 of the ranks were trained in 2024.

Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan made this disclosure on Thursday while speaking at the opening of the Annual Officers’ Conference.

He said GDF has noticed an increase in the senior officers training. This, he said, includes several “firsts”.

Among them are Sergeant Foster, who is slated to complete a programme in Strategic Studies at the National Defence University in Washington.

Colonel Roberts is scheduled to complete similar studies at the highest level of the United Kingdom training at the Royal Collage of Defence studies.

Other ranks are undergoing strategic operational studies at the Defence Collage in France and strategic studies in the Netherlands.

Additionally, Brigadier Khan said ranks continue to access studies in the United States with one officer currently attending the General Command Staff collage.

The training, he said, not only boost the ranks capability but also impact the force positively on many fronts.

“These exposures and training will see our force further impacted positively on many fronts and notably not only limited to capabilities but also to the enhancement of the existing strategic partnerships which for all purpose and intent complements the projection of strategic deterrence,” Brigadier Khan noted.
