As he addressed the nation for Guyana’s 55th Republic Anniversary, President Dr. Irfaan Ali vowed that funds needed to guarantee smooth elections this year will be provided.

“Be assured that the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) government, your government, will do everything and spare no resources in ensuring a smooth process as the people of Guyana carry out their democratic will and their democratic responsibility, as we will be celebrating democracy through elections this year,” the President said Saturday night.

In the 2025 National Budget, the government allocated $7.3 billion to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

The budget allocation includes significant sums for staff training, with millions earmarked for the recruitment and preparation of the temporary workforce.

The President’s address to the nation was made at the Public Buildings, Brickdam, Georgetown, where a flag-raising ceremony got underway Saturday night.

In that address, he spoke about the plans the government pursued since 2020, boasting of many gains made over the past four years. He also expressed much gratitude to the country’s soldiers who he said have chosen a “selfless path” and demonstrated much “strength of character” as they help to keep Guyana safe.

The President, however, noted that his administration intends to continue its aggressive development agenda.

“We’re building a Guyana that works for all its people,” the Head of State posited.

He added, “Life is improving and we will continue to do so for every citizen… but now more than ever, we must embrace the spirit of togetherness.”
