Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo firmly asserted that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) will win the upcoming general elections, refuting claims from the opposition about election rigging.

Speaking at a press conference last Thursday, Jagdeo addressed the accusations from opposition leader Aubrey Norton, who had made allegations of a “planned landslide” victory for the PPP/C.

Jagdeo rejected these claims, emphasising that the party’s success would be based on its inclusive governance and national development record.

“We will win the elections because of our work and because we are approaching Guyana as a national party, the People’s Progressive Party. We are treating all of our people equally, regardless of their race, religion, or gender,” Jagdeo said.

Norton had suggested that the PPP/C was planning for a landslide victory, with other opposition actors even suggesting that foreign intervention may be necessary to prevent the party from gaining a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.

“We’re not predicting a two-thirds majority, but we will win. We are not focused on a landslide, but on continuing to serve the people of Guyana, across all ethnic and social divides,” Jagdeo said

The Vice President took the opportunity to reaffirm the PPP/C’s approach to governance, focusing on the importance of bridging the historic racial divides in the country. He stressed that the party’s efforts to promote cross-racial cooperation were genuine and aimed at fostering long-term progress for all Guyanese citizens.

“We do this work because we are genuine about it, and we want all of our people to progress,” Jagdeo added.

The PPP/C, led by President Irfaan Ali, is gearing up for the next election cycle with a track record of significant development projects and policies that have addressed both infrastructural and social issues, from education and healthcare to job creation and poverty reduction.
