Women’s Super50: Guyana suffers narrow defeat to Barbados

Guyana Women fell short in their opening match of the CG United Insurance Super50 Cup, losing to Barbados Pride Women by 11 runs at the Conaree Sports Club in St Kitts and Nevis on Monday.

Barbados, electing to bat first, posted a competitive 183-5 from their 50 overs.  Kyshona Knight’s patient 54 anchored the innings, while Aaliyah Alleyne’s explosive 57 not out provided a late boost.

Trishan Holder and Naijanni Cumberbatch also made valuable contributions.  Sheneta Grimmond was the pick of the Guyana bowlers, taking 2-17.

Chasing 184, Guyana was bowled out for 172 in 47.4 overs.

Despite starts from Mandy Mangru, Shabika Gajnabi, and Cherry-Ann Fraser, all who made 26, no batter could convert their score into a match-winning innings.

Keila Elliott and Erin Deane both took three wickets for Barbados, with Alleyne also chipping in with two wickets.
