    The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) on Tuesday commenced its Inter-Association Under-17, 50-over competition with two matches.

    At the Farm ground, Georgetown inflicted a massive 313-run whipping on East Bank, while over at LBI, West Demerara brushed aside East Coast by nine wickets.

    Upper Demerara drew the bye this round.

    Big-hitting national Under-15 batsman Shamar Apple clobbered 15 fours and eight sixes in a belligerent 133 as Georgetown piled up 335 all out from 41.5 overs.

    Emmanual Lewis struck four fours and four sixes in 72, while Dhanesh Persaud made an unbeaten 31 (4x4s).

    Bowling for East Bank, Vinesh Kalpoo took 4-21 off five overs and Shane Shivbarran 2-33 off two.

    In reply, East Bank succumbed meekly for 22 in 11.2 overs with extras being 11.

    Lewis picked up 5-12 off 5.2 overs and fellow new-ball bowler Shane Prince had 4-9 off six.

    At LBI, national Under-15 all-rounder Parmeshwar Ram was the standout, first claiming 5-20 from five overs as East Coast were bowled out for 40 in 11.3 overs.

    Patrice Fraser picked up 3-15 off five overs.

    West Demerara then raced to victory at 41-1 in 6.4 overs with Ram making 18.

    Navindra Isurdeen picked up the lone wicket to fall.

    Round Two of the competition will take place on Thursday with West Demerara at home to Georgetown at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground and East Coast versus Upper Demerara at LBI.

    Both matches will start at 09:30h. The East Bank boys have drawn the bye for this round.
