Kevlon Anderson’s masterful century guided Guyana Harpy Eagles to a solid position on day one of their fourth-round clash against Jamaica Scorpions in the 2025 West Indies Four-Day Championship, but a late flurry of wickets from the hosts ensured the day ended evenly poised.

The Harpy Eagles reached 268-5 from 90 overs at the close of play. Kemol Savory (18*) and Gudakesh Motie (6*) remained unbeaten, but the day belonged to Anderson, who retired hurt on 100 off 161 balls, featuring ten fours and two sixes.

This was Anderson’s second century of the season and his fourth at First-Class level, underlining his growing stature in the regional game.

The day began with Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Matthew Nandu opening the batting.  Chanderpaul, looking solid, fell for 32 (2 fours) off 55 balls, dismissed after a 55-run opening partnership with Nandu.

At lunch, the Harpy Eagles were 72-1.

The second session saw Anderson and Nandu consolidate, with Nandu reaching his half-century.

He eventually departed for 61 from 195 balls, having formed a crucial partnership with Anderson.

Anderson, however, remained resolute, displaying excellent composure and strokeplay to reach his hundred.

However, the Scorpions fought back strongly in the final session. Odean Smith, who had been threatening throughout the day, picked up three crucial wickets, while Tamarie Redwood chipped in with two.

The late wickets pegged back the Harpy Eagles’ progress and prevented them from establishing complete dominance on day one.
