The government has filed an appeal against a recent court decision that recognised miners Milton Brandford and Ayudhia Narine as the rightful owners of 32 gold claims in 14 Mile Issano, Karouni.

This move, announced by Attorney General Anil Nandlall, signals the government’s intent to challenge the ruling and seek a reconsideration of the ownership of the valuable gold claims.

Nandlall, during his Tuesday night ‘Issues in the News’ commentary, noted that the court ruling, which had been widely publicised, involved a case between the miners and the Ministry of Natural Resources, as well as the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).

“I spoke with the lawyer for the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, Cameron and Shepherd, and they indicated that they will file an appeal,” Nandlall said.

“Today, the Attorney General, acting on behalf of the Minister of Natural Resources, filed an appeal against the decision of the Honourable Chief Justice delivered on 5th March 2025.”

The appeal has now been submitted to the Court of Appeal, with the government aiming to challenge the ruling and seek a revision of the ownership decision.
