The upcoming Vitz Cup Championship is not just introducing a new racing series to Guyana’s motorsport scene; it’s also bringing fresh faces to the driver’s seat.

Most notably, media professionals Kunal Persaud and Luis Kumar are transitioning from covering races to competing, setting the stage for an exciting and fiery rivalry.

From behind the lens to behind the wheel

Kunal Persaud, co-founder of GT Tuners, has been a well-known name in the motorsport and automotive community since 2017.

GT Tuners started as a media and educational platform aimed at promoting racing culture and helping enthusiasts build project cars or break into motorsports.

His work has contributed significantly to creating a more substantial racing presence in Guyana.

Kunal also owns Artrix Productions, adding creative depth to his resume as a media producer.

Luis Kumar, the face behind Boost High Octane, has been a constant presence at South Dakota Circuit events. Through photography, videos and social media content, he has helped bring local racing into the spotlight.

But Luis isn’t just another motorsport media guy- he also sits on the GMR&SC committee, actively shaping the sport’s future. Now, with helmet in hand, he’s stepping into the driver’s seat and taking his passion to the next level.

The challenge heard around the pits

Fuelling the hype, Kunal recently issued a public challenge to Luis, stirring the pot before either has even turned a competitive lap.

“Even though we sent out the challenge to Luis Kumar, the seasoned racers like Raymond Seebarran, Sudesh Rajaram, etc., shouldn’t feel too relaxed. We will be on the grid to compete- not just to make up numbers. Podium is GT Tuners Racing’s target- Boost High Octane Racing is a bonus.”

Luis didn’t hold back with his response: “Well, we beating GT Tuners for sure- I’m not too worried there. And for the other seasoned drivers, I must say money ain’t winning races here! It’s equal cars, so we brawling on April 27.”

Equal cars and equal chance, but big pressure

The Vitz Cup’s appeal lies in its level playing field- identical spec cars mean this battle will be decided purely by driver talent, not horsepower or budget.

Both drivers are entering their first official competition, but their familiarity with the track and the racing world puts them in a unique position to surprise.

With seasoned racers like Seebarran, Maraj and Rajaram lining up, this clash between media titans-turned-racers adds a whole new dynamic to what’s already shaping up to be a thrilling race day.

One thing’s for sure: when the lights go out on April 27, the cameras will still be rolling, but this time, they’ll be pointed at Kunal and Luis from inside their cars. (GMR&SC)
