A new era dawns for the Guyana Body Building and Fitness Federation (GBBFF), as Roger Callender emerged victorious in a contested presidential election at the federation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Olympic House, Liliendaal, on March 30.

Callender, an active competitor and trainer, secured 20 votes, defeating Intiaz Satar, who received four.

His victory marks the end of Keavon Bess’s tenure, with the outgoing president choosing not to seek re-election.

The presidential race was the only contested position at the AGM, with all other roles filled unopposed.

Coel Marks was elected Vice President, Romelton Siland took the General Secretary position, Shemina Peroune became Treasurer, Intiaz Satar moved to Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Tariq Dakil assumed the Organising Secretary role, and Bess transitioned to Executive Director.

The committee members elected were Kerwin Clarke, Yusif Khan, Anthony McLean, Errol Tekaram, Darious Ramsammy, Dwayne Mars, and Omar Satar.

The newly elected executive will serve a 24-month term.

It’s worth noting that the previous executive’s term, led by Keavon Bess, was extended by 12 months to ensure continuity during Guyana’s hosting of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships.

Following the elections, Videsh Sookram was bestowed with Honorary Life Membership of the GBBFF, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport.

The AGM also saw the acceptance of financial reports from 2022 to 2024, including those related to the successful CAC Championships held in Guyana in 2024.

Attorney-at-Law Olivia Bess served as the returning officer.
