    Demerara won the Guyana Cricket Board Inter-County Under-17 title, beating Berbice in the final on Wednesday at the LBI ground, with match-winning performances from off-spinner Dave Mohabir and the hard-hitting Shamar Apple.

    In a clash of the two unbeaten sides, Demerara prevailed by six wickets, chasing a small target of 125 in the 50-over match.

    Talented left-hander Apple scored 61 off 59 balls, an innings that included nine fours and two sixes, to lead Demerara to victory with exactly 16 overs to spare.

    Micah Amsterdam and Feaz Baksh were the wicket-takers for Berbice with two each.

    Berbice made 124, batting just 27.4 overs, against a disciplined Demerara bowling attack.

    Man-of-the-Match Dave Mohabir picked up 4-10 off 6.4 overs, and skipper Parmeshwar Ram 3-24.

    Berbice captain Romario Ramdeholl followed up his 50 and 65 in the previous two games with a top score of 43, while Devin Lallbeharry made 33.

    Over at the Transport Sports Club, Essequibo ended the tournament with a five-wicket win over the Select XI.

    Led by a superb spell of 4-47 from leg-spinner Navindra Sankar and two wickets each from Bomesh Lall and Shazim Mohamed, the Essequibians kept Select XI to 181, with skipper Richard Ramdeholl making 49 and Shane Prince 24.

    Captain Nicholas Lovell then stroked an unbeaten 55 to spur Essequibo to victory, with Jathneil Nurse making a patient 40, Lall 29 and Usain Fredericks 20.

    The victory ensured Essequibo finish third in the four-team championship.
