Guyana is poised to make a significant statement at the CARIFTA Track and Field Championships in Trinidad, unleashing a formidable 42-member team for the April 19-21 showdown at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

This represents the largest contingent ever fielded by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) for the prestigious junior regional meet, signaling a clear ambition for success.

In a notable first for the nation, Guyana will have representation in the demanding decathlon event, with Ethan Cort stepping up to the challenge in the ten-discipline combined event.

The squad boasts a blend of experience and emerging talent, with 15 athletes returning from the 2024 CARIFTA Games in Grenada—that team of 23 athletes secured eight medals.

Headlining the returning athletes are standout performers Malachi Austin, Tianna Springer, and Athaleya Hinckson, all expected to be key medal contenders.

A dedicated delegation of officials will accompany the team, ensuring the athletes receive the necessary guidance and support throughout the championships.

The officials include Kenisha Headly, Dwayne Carter, Kariem Aaron, Aretha Legall, Timothy Sealey, Vanessa Wickham, Johny Gravesande, Twana McCalmont, Sheryl Hermonstine, and James Cole.

The locally-based athletes will undergo a final crucial training camp from April 11 to 13 at the National Track and Field Facility, fine-tuning their preparations before departing for Trinidad on April 17th.

Guyana’s potential bid to host the Games in 2026 adds an intriguing backdrop to the Games. The AAG expressed interest last year, and a final decision on the hosting rights is anticipated during the congress over the Easter weekend.

While Barbados had initially bid, they have since withdrawn, potentially bolstering Guyana’s chances.

Team Guyana: Kaidon Persaud, Ezekiel Millington, Gordon Thompson, Jonathan Richards, Dequan Farrell, Tishawn Easton, Walton Alleyne, Ade Sealey, Nathaniel Samaroo, Rodel Greene, Duel Europe, Zakiah Jacobs, David Williams, Tianna Springer, Timothy Smith, Lamar Yaw, Athaleyha Hinckson, Angel Jeffrey, Shania Thompson, Nerissa McPherson, Esther McKinnon, Attoya Harvey, Adanya Glen, Jennifer Byass, Charissa December, Kenetha Fraser, Skylar Charles, Jaden Sutherland, Afi Blair, Malachi Austin, Javon Roberts, Shaquan Shepherd, Ebo McNeil,  Bryson Anderson, Ethan Cort, Anthony Cort, Marquez Miggins, Kaymayra Lacon, Danangelo Smith, Adessa Albert, Devon Easton, Jamie Fraser.
