A fine unbroken partnership of 78 between skipper Richard Ramdeholl and his deputy Brandon Henry spurred Guyana to a six-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago in the opening round of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15, 50-over competition on Tuesday.

Playing at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Guyana, set a target of 168, slipped to 93-4 with openers Justin Dowlin (31) and Lomar Seecharran (21) and middle-order pair Arif Bacchus (2) and Shahid Ramzan (0) back in the dugout.

It was then that Ramdeholl and Henry took control of the chase, easing Guyana to victory in 41.5 overs.

Ramdeholl stroked a classy 64 not out off 88 balls (8x4s), while Henry played a responsible hand, ending on 39 not out off 49 (2x4s). Leg-spinner Ethan Ramcharan was impressive with 2-36.

After being sent in to bat, Trinidad and Tobago openers Jordan Julien and Davis Guerra put on 96 in 28 overs, and then a collapse saw them being reduced to 99-4.

Skipper Kaiden Pollard and his deputy Zion Phillip were dismissed without scoring during the collapse.

From then on, Guyana controlled proceedings, gaining valuable fast bowling points with Nathaniel Ramsammy (2-18), Rafell McKenzie (2-26) and Patrice Fraser (2-47) combining for six wickets.

Left-arm spinner Henry (2-15), who started the top order slide, and Reyaz Latif (2-31) had an equal share of the remaining four wickets.
