Hooper secures bronze for Guyana at South American Championships

Guyana’s Natricia Hooper won a bronze medal in the women’s triple jump at the South American Championship in Athletics in Argentina.

Hooper, the national record holder in the event, leaped 13.64m to finish third. The event saw Brazil dominate with Gabrielle Sousa (13.96m) winning gold and Regiclecia Da Silva (13.76m) taking silver.

Hooper is part of the eight-athlete team representing Guyana at the prestigious championships.

In the men’s 100m semifinals, Guyana’s Akeem Stewart clocked 10.48 seconds in the first semi-final, finishing fourth and missing out on a spot in the final.

Colombia’s Ronald Longa won the semi-final in 10.04 seconds.

Kerion DeSouza, also representing Guyana, finished sixth in the third semi-final with a time of 10.86 seconds. Colombia’s Carlos Florez won the race in 10.21 seconds.

Other members of the team include: Emanuel Lewis (Long Jump), Noelex Holder (200m), Analisa Redmond (Long Jump) and Leslain Baird (Javelin).

Quinse Clarke is the coach of the team.
