Dolphin edges Chase in dramatic final to win Milo Schools Football title


Dolphin Secondary secured their first Milo Schools Football title with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Chase’s Academic Foundation in the final at the Ministry of Education ground on Saturday evening.
Chase Academy, who were aiming for their fifth title in the 11th edition of the tournament, were denied by a late goal from Seon Grant in the 90th minute.
Chase Academy had taken an early lead through Damani Hardy in the second minute, but Dolphin quickly equalised through Grant.
Neeiaz Baksh then restored Chase Academy’s lead in the 17th minute, but Brian Bower levelled the scores for Dolphin from the penalty spot in the 44th minute.
Dolphin received $300,000 towards a school initiative and the championship trophy, while Chase Academy received $200,000 and a trophy.
In the third-place playoff, West Ruimveldt defeated Waramuri 2-1.
Jeremiah Griffith scored twice in quick succession (85th and 87th minutes) for West Ruimveldt, after Erwin Booker had given Waramuri the lead in the 36th minute.
West Ruimveldt received $100,000 and the third-place trophy, while Waramuri received $75,000 and a trophy.
Ezekiel Frank-David of Dolphin Secondary was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
His teammate Brian Bower was named best goalkeeper, while Chase Academy’s Bryan Wharton won the highest goal-scorer award with 20 goals.
