Calm restored nationwide following protests; over 100 arrested in past 24 hours

The Guyana Police Force Tuesday said that the situation across the country has returned to normal, following unrest sparked by the tragic death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge. In a press release from the Office of the Commissioner of Police, authorities stated that joint services have stabilised conditions across all ten administrative regions.

Over the past 24 hours, more than 100 individuals have been arrested in connection with various offences, including armed robbery. Additionally, 37 motorcycles believed to have been used in criminal activities were seized, and charges are expected to be laid against those in custody. The police have also issued wanted bulletins for several individuals believed to be involved in the disturbances.

The Ministers of Public Works and Home Affairs joined the joint services in clean-up efforts, signalling a national push towards recovery and order. Security forces continue to maintain a strong presence in affected areas to deter further incidents and reassure the public.

The Guyana Police Force has reiterated its commitment to restoring and upholding law and order and is calling on all citizens to cooperate with ongoing operations.
