Unions brave rainy weather in march for workers’ rights

Dozens of workers, decked in their red ensembles, gathered on Thursday and braved the rain as they marched the streets of Georgetown as part of a downsized Labour Day celebrations.

The march that often has the turnout of multiple unions across the nation was less packed this year as many trade unions opted out owing to public safety concerns.

Nevertheless, the unions have reaffirmed their commitment to championing the rights and welfare of public servants through other platforms and noted ongoing negotiations with the government.

Meanwhile, at the Critchlow Labour College, workers who marched with the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) gathered. Their eventful walk was rained out but the workers remained committed to their goal, walking for the rights and respect of all workers.

Lincoln Lewis, the General Secretary of GTUC delivered a compelling speech as he urged workers to continue pursuing inclusive and just working conditions for the working class.
