Senior officials from the Guyana Police Force met on Tuesday with legal representatives and relatives of Adriana Younge. According to the police, the meeting was aimed at addressing the family’s questions and providing clarity on the status of the ongoing investigation.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, accompanied by Deputy Commissioners Budhram and McBean, and Superintendent Baird of the Office of Professional Responsibility, met with attorneys Dexter Todd and Eusi Anderson, who are representing the Younge family. The private meeting was held at the request of Dr Todd in the Commissioner’s Board Room.

In a statement, the police said the session was part of their continued efforts to ensure transparency and maintain open lines of communication with the family. While several questions were answered, others were deemed too sensitive to be discussed at this stage due to the active nature of the investigation. Police indicated that those matters would be addressed in writing following further consultation with the investigative team.

“The Force welcomed the engagement as an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and diligent investigative work,” the statement read.

During the meeting, the legal team was assured that the case is being handled with the utmost seriousness. Police confirmed that water samples from the pool where Younge was reportedly found had been collected and sent overseas for independent forensic testing. They also emphasised that senior officers are maintaining oversight to ensure impartiality and thoroughness throughout the process.

The police stressed that no information was withheld arbitrarily, and that any details not disclosed were done so to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Mr Todd, who formerly served the Guyana Police Force in various roles, including as Personal Assistant to a previous Commissioner of Police, was reminded of the importance of managing information carefully during an ongoing investigation.

The Force reiterated its commitment to keeping the Younge family informed while observing all legal and procedural obligations. “Every measure is being taken to ensure a thorough, transparent, and accountable process,” the statement concluded.

The police thanked the family and the public for their patience as the investigation continues.
