Kaneville man, 25, charged with murder

Akesi Primo, a 25-year-old resident of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of 48-year-old Derreck Sylvester Prostea.

Primo appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court #2, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead to this indictable charge and was remanded to prison.

This matter was adjourned to June 9, 2025.

Prostea was allegedly attacked by the 25-year-old man during an altercation that took place around 18:45 hrs on the Grove Public Road, EBD, on Wednesday evening.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two men, which escalated into violence. Prostea sustained a stab wound to his right shoulder and collapsed at the scene. He was transported to the Diamond Hospital, where a medical professional formally pronounced him dead.
