Four men were remanded to prison on Thursday for their involvement in the brazen robbery of customers and the owners of a Chinese Supermarket at Number 65 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

The accused: Jacob Fable, 58, Andre Crandon, 38, Joshua Smith, 30 and Fitztroy Joseph, 27, faced the Magistrate’s scrutiny at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court presided over by Tuanna Hardy.

The court heard that on May 8, at the Golden Spring Chinese Supermarket, owned by Zing Hong, the four men executed a calculated operation against numerous victims.

Zhingang Hu, a businessperson, was robbed of $1.9 million in cash and a cellphone valued at $100,000.

Qun Wang had $300,000 in cash and a cellphone worth $100,000 taken from him and Haresh Persaud was deprived of a Toyota Fielder Wagon, registration number HD 7448, valued at $2 million alongside other items including a Motorola cellphone worth $40,000 and cash totaling $25,000.

Further, victims including Totaram Roopram and Chandrawattie Roopram were robbed of personal belongings totaling thousands in cash and valuables. Lynette Shankar was targeted and robbed $898,000 in cash, plus various other valuables.

Shavnarine Richard was robbed of $30,000 in cash and a Samsung A12 cellphone worth $20,000. Another victim, Mohamed Shakar, was robbed of a Samsung A04 cellphone worth $40,000 and a gold ring worth $170,500.

During the court proceedings, the accused were not required to enter pleas for the indictable charge.

The prosecution firmly opposed bail, leading Magistrate Hardy to deny it.

The men were remanded to prison and the case has been moved to the Number 51 Magistrates Court, scheduled for June 11.
