Jagdeo says the investigation into circumstances of Adriana Younge’s death much-needed

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, on Thursday, said the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge is much-needed, but cautioned persons against politicising the tragedy.

“Clearly, we have to investigate the circumstances under which this child died.

“Those investigations are going on now (about) whether it was by natural cause or negligence… or was it foul play.

“We clearly have to complete the investigation, and that is where this is going,” Jagdeo said at his weekly press conference.

However, the Vice President cautioned persons against politicising the matter. And he castigated the APNU/AFC political opposition for seemingly using the young girl’s death for political gain.

“You are never going to have a conclusion that will satisfy APNU/AFC because they want to drag this out,” he lamented.

A retired officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Leonard McCoshen, officially began working on the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adriana Younge on Wednesday. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum also said his best investigators are probing the matter and were told not to rule out any theories or possibilities.

Adriana Younge went missing on April 23 while at the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen. Her body was discovered in the hotel’s pool the following day, sparking national outcry and calls for an independent investigation.

So far, three internationally recognised pathologists have been involved in the initial autopsy.
